Ailanthus

Genus of Sima rubaceæ, composed of a single species, A. glandulosus, a large tree, native of eastern Asia. but now widely cultivated; called Tree of Heaven, and in China Ailanto. The leaves of A. glandulosus are the favorite food of the silk worm ( Bombyx Cynthia ). A decoction or tincture of the dry bark has been recommended in asthma, epilepsy, dyspepsia and dysentery. It has also been used for the expulsion of the tapeworm in dogs, as well as in man, when given in form of the bark or leaves.
