ANGINA

A disease attended with a sense of anxiety and suffocation: the term is applied to sore throat, and to certain symptoms arising from organic disease of the heart; the latter gives rise to a distre ing difficulty of respiration, and is hence termed Angina Pectoris. ANGIOCARPOUS. {Gr. icyyuov, a case, and xa^To;, fruit.) When seed-ve els are inclosed within a covering that does not form a part of themselves; as the filbert, V, hich is covered by its husk, the acorn seated in its capsule. The word is also applied soraethnes to such fungi as have their spores included in a peridium, or hollow-shell, as Lycoperdon. [s. 64]
