Ambergris

(am' -ber-gris). A substance excreted by the sperm whale, Physeter macrocephalus. It is not known whether it is a pathological product or not. It exhales a fragrant, musky odor when warmed, and is used in adynamic fevers, chronic catarrh, and nervous diseases. Dose, gr. j-iij. Unof. See Ambrein.
