Cadence

In music, sequences of harmonies which bring compositions, or parts of them, to a close. It is perfect when the effect is completely restful to the ear, as the progre ion from dominant to tonic harmony, interrupted when a progre ion which promises rest is departed from before completion, and imperfect when there is no interruption and the effect is yet unsatisfactory, as from tonic to dominant harmony.
