[Gr. psoa =the muscles of the loins.] 1. Anat.: Two muscles; the psoas magnus and psoas parvus, connected with the lumbar vertebræ. 2. Entom.: A genus of beetles allied to Bostrichus. psō-çi-dæ, s. pl. [Mod. Lat. psoc(us); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idœ.] Entom.: A family of Pseudo neuroptera, tribe Corrodent i a, with four genera. They frequent the trunks of trees, palings, old walls, stones covered with lichens, old books, feeding on more minute animalcula or decaying animal matter. Entom.: The typical genus of Psocide (q. v.). Head broad, posterior margin of fore-wings with three cells. Forty-three species, including part of the Linnæan genus He me rob i us.
