Linen

Cloth made of flax and having many grades of finene , and several forms distinguished by their figures; as CAMBRIC and DAMASK (q.v.). It is either gra bleached or aided by bleaching powder. The former is more durable. It was known at an early day, pieces still being in existence which were woven 4,000 years ago. The ancient Egyptian linen is far superior to the finest modern in quality and even and 110 in the woof to the inch. See FLAX. ne of the threads. One specimen has 540 threads in the warp
