TARTAR

(Yunanca köken — orijinale bakınız.) The substance which concretes upon the inside of wine casks. It is called red and white argol, according to the wine from which it is ob- ' tained. When purified it is often called cream of tartar: I it is a bitartrate of potash. [s. 1221]
