Harris burg

a city, capital of the State of Pennsylvania, and county seat of Dauphin co.; on the Susem river, 160 miles W. of Philaelphia. It is a railroad center with direct connections with the coal and iron resources of the State, and is an extensive lumber depot. The State Capitol, a magnificent cla ic building completed in 1906 at a cost of $13,- 000,000, stands on a slight eminence in a beautiful park of 10 acres. Pop. (1910) 64,186, Harrison, Benjamin, an American patriot; born in Berkeley, Va., about 1740. He was elected to the House of Burge es soon after attaining his majority. In 1773 he was chosen a member of the~ committee which united the colonies against Great Britain. Shortly afterward he was elected to Congre and five times reélected. On July 4, 1776, he reported, as chairman of the committee of the whole House, the Declaration of Independence, of which he was one of the signers. He opposed the ratification-of the Federal Constitution, but, on its adoption, supported the National government. He died in April, 1791.
