(an-ah-sar' -kah). An accumulation of serum in the areolar ti ues of the body. If a ociated with effusion of fluid into serous cavities it is called general dropsy. If the affection is local, it is called edema. This local form is generally the result of some mechanical obstruction to the flow of blood in the part.
