Frisians

(frizhyanz,) Fris'ii, or Frisones. (Hist.) A people of anc. Germany, who inhabited the extreme N.W. corner of that country, between the mouths of the rivers Ems and Rhine. They were subdued by the Franks, who divided their country into W. Fries land and E. Fries land. The Frisian language comes in between the Old Norse and the Anglo-Saxon; the modern tongue is spoken in a number of local dialects. [s. 387]
