Inhabitants of Fries land, n. Holland. Formerly the whole coast of the North Sea from Jutland to West Flanders with the islands adjacent was occupied by them. Since the first century, when they became known to the Romans, both their numbers and their geographical area appear to have been gradually diminishing.
