(Lat.), n. f. Mi2l-ia-a(a3)'ri2-a'. From milium, a millet-seed. Fr., (fievre, ou suette) miliaire, fievre sudorale (ou pourpree), pourpre blanc, suette millet, millot. Ger., Friesel, Frieselfieber, Frieselau chlag, Schwei friesel, englischer Schwei . It., miliare, febbre migliare (o sudorale), miarola, migliare, migliorina. Sp., miliar, calentura m., millos. Syn.: miliary fever, millet-seed rash, sudoral exanthemata. 1. An old term for a febrile disease, apparently contagious, attended with profuse sweats and a vesicular or papulo-vesicular eruption followed by desquamation like that of measles. It is often of grave character, and sometimes epidemic. By Chomel it is considered as an epiphenomenon following severe febrile disorders. See also M. rubra. 2. At present the term is applied to certain vesicular exanthems which may appear incidentally in connection with various conditions or diseases of the general system or of the skin. M. rubra (q. v.) in which the contents of the vesicles have become opaque from admixture of lymph-corpuscles. [G.] M. angiiiosa. Ger., Brdunefriesel. M. apparently caused by angina, [a, 34.] M. arthritic a. See ARTHROPHLYSIS cardiac a. M. chronic a. M. appearing during non-febrile states, as in scurvy. [G, 11.] M. crystal lin a. Sudamina; a cutaneous eruption consisting of perfectly transparent, rounded vesicles of varying size, usually a little larger than millet-seeds, not attended with any abnormal sensations or usually with much if any change in the surrounding skin. It is often a ociated with acute febrile diseases. [G.] M. epidemic a. Fr., miliaire epidemique. See M. (1st def.). M. exanthematic a. A m. (usually of the form termed m. crystal lin a) appearing in the course of an exanthematous fever. [G.] M. febrilis. M. a ociated with fever. [G.] M. lactea. Fr., miliaire lactee. A form peculiar to lying-in women; the contents of the vesicles are said to be milk. [G, 11.] M. mercurial is. See ECZEMA mercuriale. M. opaca.- M. in which the contents of the vesicles are opaque. [G.] M. papulosa. See LICHEN tropic us. M. pellucid a. M. in which the contents of the vesicles are clear. [G.] M. puerperal is, M. puerpera rum.
