JORDAN

Arabic Ardan , Urdunn ( اردن‎ ). Referring to Sūrah iii. 39 , the legend is that the priests threw lots, by casting arrows into the river Jordan, as to which should take charge of the Virgin Mary after the Annunciation. “Thou wert not by them when they threw their lots which of them should take care of Mary, nor wert thou by them when they did dispute.”
