Jordan

(jor'dan,) the principal river of Palestine, famous in Biblical history. It rises bet. the E. Lebanon Mts. and Mount Hermon, and after a S. course of 200 m. empties into the N. end of the Dead Sea. It connects with the Lake of Tiberias and the small lake of El Huleh. It is very shallow throughout its extent. Jo'ram. See JEHORAM. [s. 507]
