Cataract

Opacity of the crystalline lens, commonly due to old age, injury, or diabetes. It is usually progre ive, and when complete, the sight in the affected eye is lost. It is relievable only by operation, which consists either in the removal of the lens or in breaking it up so as to allow of its absorption; the latter method is applicable only to those which are fluid or soft.
