The general name for the distinct parts which unitedly make up the skeleton of the body. The matrix or substance consists of an organized ma of fibers of collagen, impregnated with mineral matter, chiefly calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate, asymmetrical b's. B's which lie on one side of the median plane of the body and which are not divided by it into two equal parts.
