is the technical namo of the white corpuscle found in the blood in large numbers, Its function is to attack and destroy all disease germs which gain entrance to the blood. The germs, in turn, secrete poisons to destroy the leucocytes. Matter, or pus, is composed mainly of dead leucocytes, killed in their fight with the germs. [s. 382]
