In Botany, group of closely related genera, as the Betulaceæ or Birch family, which includes also the Alders and Hornbeams. The name usually ends in aceæ. In Zoology, a emblage of genera having some common characteristic. The term designating the family always ends in idæ, and that of the sub-family in inæ. See CLASSIFICATION.
