Charles XII

King of Sweden, 1697-1718. Soldier and conqueror. Peter the Great of Ru ia, Frederick IV. of Denmark, and August us of Poland made a league against him in 1700. He besieged Copenhagen, and forced Denmark to make peace beat the Ru ians, and in the next campaign invaded Poland, where he compelled August us to resign invaded Ru ia, and was de¬ feated (1709) at Pultowa found refuge in Turkey, from which he soon returned invading Norway, he was killed at the siege of Frederickshalle. Born, 1682; died, 1718.
