Bulwark-stanchions

Rough tree-stanchions. Timbers erected at equal distances from each other above an „ upper-deck-waterway, ’’ on the outside of which the bulwark-planking is fastened, and on the summit of which the main —, or rough tree-rail is placed. If such stanchions are fitted round forecastles, poops, and raised-quarterdecks, they are respectively termed, „ Forecastle-stanchions, ” „ Poop stanchions,”..Raiscd-quarter-deck-stanchions,” etc.
