As used in coast artillery practice, errors are either the horizontal of the points of splash center of impact, distances or the rectilinear coordinate s of from those the'.' distances..Errors are measured in a plane pa ing through the center of impact and parallel to the horizontal plane through the muzzle of the piece in the firing position, and are cla ified as absolute, lateral, longitudinal, mean absolute, mean lateral mean longitudinal, and probable error.
