REGALIA

(Lat. rex, a Icing.) In Politics, the privileges, prerogative, and right of property, belonging, in virtue of office, to the sovereign of a state. The latter cla of objects are most commonly termed regalia minor a; as, in some countries, waifs, strays, and newly-formed land, .; in England, forfeitures, .; while the former are known by the epithet major a. Regalia, in English Heraldry, the royal insignia, crowns, sceptres, globes, cro es, , used at the coronation: also the crown jewels.
