hen, n. The female of any fowl, esp. of the do- mestic fowl. [AS. and D., fern, of AS. han a, D. haa?i, a cock, orig. a singer; L. canere, to sing.] — Hen'bane, n. A plant poisonous to domestic fowls: all parts of the plant are highly narcotic, and used in medicine as a substitute for opium; hyoscyamus. — Hen'-har'rier, n. A species of harrier (bird) destructive to poultiy. heart'ed, a. Cowardly; timid. pecked, -peltt, a. Governed by one's wife. roost, n. Pluce where poultry rest at night. — Hen'nery, -ner-T, n.
