Nepeta

(ne-pe'tah.) (Bot.) A gen. of plants, O. Lamiaceæ, distinguished by the calyx having about 15 ribs, and an oblique five-toothed mouth; and the corolla with the upper lip straight and notched, and the lower usually three-cleft. The species, natives of Europe, are known under the name of Ground-ivy, Gill, and Catmint. [s. 637]
