The calyx is fifteen-ribbed; the two posterior, i , e., upper, stamens the longer; th upper lip of the corolla straight, emarginate, or bifid. About 110 species are known, from North Africa and the temperate parts of Europe. N. ciliaris is given in India in sherbet for fever and cough. N. ruderal is is supposed to be a cardiac tonic.
