ANETHOL

n. A?n‘e?th-01, From anethum. Ger., Anethol. It., anetolo. A substance occurring both as a solid (solid a., cere) and as a liquid (liquid a.), having the composition Cj9H,,0. It forms the chief part of the oils of anise, fennel, and tarragon. ‘There are two isomeric forms, met anethol and is anethol, the former being a liquid, boiling at 2325° C., which pa es over with the distillate in the ‘proce of distillation, while the latter, which is a light-yellow solid of viscid consistence, remains behind.
