Absolution

(ab-so-lū'shun.) [From L. absolutus, freed from.] (Theol.) In the Roman Cath. Church, a religious ceremony in which the priest uses the formula Ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis, " I absolve thee from thy sins." The Council of Trent a orted that the priest has power in himself to absolve from sin; but this is subject to the repentance of the individual, and his submi ion to the requisite penance. [s. 4]
