Elizabeth, the philanthropist, was born in 1780, and was 4 converted ’ by a sermon preached by the American Quaker, William Savery. She married Joseph Fry, who was also a Quaker, in 1800, and ten years later became herself a preacher. She devoted a great deal of her life to the improvement of prisons.....
