copaiba

(ko-pa’ib-ah). The resinous juice of various leguminous trees of tropical America, especially Copai’fer a of ficin a’lis and C. langsdorff’ti: it is diuretic and laxative, and is much used for gonorrhea and chronic disease of mucous membranes. Dose, τὸ min.-1 fi.dr. (0.666-4 c.c.); of ma a copaibe, 5-30 gr. (0.333-2 gm.); of mistura copaibe compos it a, 1-4 dr. (4-16 c.c.). The oil (o’leum copai’be) is given in doses of 10-15 min. (0.666-1 c.c.); the resin (res’ina cop a’iba), in doses of 1-5 gr. (0.066-0.333 gm.).
