(na'moor,) a strongly fortified city of Belgium, C. of a p. of same name (see BELGIUM), at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse, 33 m. S.E. of Bru els. It is aw ell and handsomely built place, situated on a rock, and carries on extensive manu fs. of hardware,fire-arms| cutlery, . N. was taken by the French in 1692, 1701, and 1746. Pop. 23,389.
