Arion

[Gr. ̓Αρίων ( Ανίδη ).] 1. In Greek Myth . The horse of Adrastus, who lived during the Theban war. It was fabled to have the power of utterance, and to foretell future events. 2. In Zool.: A genus of Gasteropodous Molluscs of the family Limacidæ, or Slugs. The A. ater is the common Black Snail. Tate, in 1875, estimated the known recent species at twenty and the fo il at one, the latter from the Newer Pliocene of Maid stone. The sub-genus Plectrophorus, ranked under Arion, has five species, all from Teneriffe.
