SEABURY, SAMUEL

(1729-96), the first bishop of Connecticut, took holy orders in England, 1753, and in Aberdeen, after months of patient waiting, secured his consecration at the hands of three bishops of the Scottish Episcopal Church. Through 8. all American bishops are linked with that church.
