(Lat.),n.n. A*th(asth)-e?r(ar)-o'mas, Gen., a the rom'atos (-tis). Gr., àfjpopa (from é6jpy, porridge). Fr., athérome, loupe ete moiluscum stéarique., Ger., A the rom, Breigeschwulst, Balggeschwulst, Griitzbeutelgeschwulst. It., ateroma. Sp., ateroma, lobanillo. Syn.: steatoma, acue sebacea molluscum, cyst is sebacea, lupia, talpa. 1. Properly, a wen (a sebaceous cyst); a subcutaneous cyst of considerable ae consisting of the retained contents of one or more sebaceous follicles, situated most commonly on the scalp, forehead, neck, or back, usually covered with skin unaltered in appearance; so called from the porridge-like character of the contents. [G.] 2. Any morbid deposit resembling the contents of a wen. The ancients a) Aled the term to glands affected with scrofulous degeneration.
