Edema

Localized, painle , non-inflammatory swelling of any part of the body when caused by an infiltration of serum into the areolar ti ue. It is a variety of dropsy, and is frequently a symptom of disease of the heart or kidneys. It is sometimes located in the glottis, and may rapidly cause death by closing the wind-pipe, preventing respiration.
