a large fish of which there are two or three distinct — found ix the seas round Europe. The most common, from 6 to 10 feet long, is often canght in the seas and estuaries of Britain, especially in the Bristol Channel. A smaller one, called the sterlet, from 4 to 6 feet long, is found in the Black and Caspian Seas, as well as a much larger one, reaching sometimes a length of 25 feet.
