(fri dai.) [ A.S. frig-dæg.] (Chron.) The 6th day of the week, so named from Frigga, the Scand in avian Venus, worshipped by the anc. Saxons on this day. F. was also the Dies Veneris (day of Venus) of the Romans. In the Roman Catholic Church, every F., unle Christmas-day should fall upon it, is held as either a day of abstinence or of entire fasting.
