DAVID

name of an old fort in Madras. It stood on the Coromandel Coast, a little south of Pond i cherry, and remains of it may still be seen. The land was bought by the English in 1690, and here the Hast India Co. had a fort until it was taken by the French in 1758. The French destroyed it, but the territory was given back to Britain in 1785.
