(tung’sten) (Swed. ‘‘ heavy stone’. A brittle metallic element; symbol, W (for wolfram); atomic weight, 183.6; specific gravity, 109.13. Calcium tungstate is employed i in skiagraphy, and various tungsten compounds are used in chemistry as reagents.
