—A somewhat rare metal used as the filament in the tungsten incandescent lamp. It is steel gray in color, very heavy (specific gravity 19.129), and hard enough to scratch gla . It pa es directly into vapor at a very high temperature without entering the liquid state, and has a lower specific resistance than carbon.
