The operation of making an opening into the windpipe is hence called tracheotomy. The words laryngotomy and broncho to my are also used to expre the same thing. Trachyte. (tra'kīt.) [FromGr. trachys, rough. ] (Geol.) A species of ancient lava, often porphyritic, and, when it contains hornblende and augite, pa ing into those varieties of traps which are termed Basalt, Greenstone, Dolerite, & c. T. is usually of a light gray color. [s. 902]
