(tra’ke-ah) [L.; Gr. rpaxeta rough]. The wind-pipe; the cartilaginous and membranous tube descending from the larynx to the bronchi. Ὅ. retractor, an instrument for holding back the edges of the slit trachea during surgical operations. scabbard t., a trachea which is flattened by approximation of its lateral walls.
