Shiloh

(shi'lo,) a locality in Hard in co., Tenne ee,2m. W. of Pittsburg Landing, on the Tenne ee River, and 12 m. S.W. of Savannah. This place was the scene of an obstinate battle bet. Gen. Grant's National army, and that of the Confederates under Gens. A. S. Johnston and Beau regard. It commenced on the 6th April, 1862, on which day the Union troops were repulsed with heavy slaughter; receiving reinforcements, however, they resumed the action on the 7th, and defeated the Confederates, with the lo of Gen.
