Chaplain

Clergyman attached to an army post or regiment, to a ve el, jail, college, or nobleman's household. In the U. S. Army he has the rank of captain of infantry. The law provides for 30 post chaplains and 4 chaplains for the 4 colored regiments; viz., the 9th and 10th of cavalry, and the 24th and 25th of infantry. French portrait American
