(mel-an-e’ ’-me-ah) [/usAac, black; al/ua, blood]. The presence in the blood plasma or in the corpuscles, or in both, of dark pigment-granules due to the disintegration of the hemoglobin. It is also termed hem a chroma to sis. Its most common cause is malaria. 384
