(mel-an-e' -me-ah) ua, 1. The presence in the blood-plasma or in the corpuscles, or in both, of dark pigment-granules due to the disintegration of the hemoglobin. Its most common cause is malaria. If very intense, as in pernicious forms of malaria, it may give rise to embolism of the capillaries of the brain or other organs. We lan encephaloma. A black outgrowth from the brain. Welanephidrosis (mel-an-ef-id-ro/ -sis). Black perspiration, or a disease characterized by black perspiration. See, also, Chromidrosis. vlelangeur (mel-an-jur'). The graduated pipet of the hemocytometer. tfelanic (mel-an' -ik). Characterized by, or pertaining to, a dark color, or to melanosis. M. Acid, a black powder resulting from the oxidation of pota ium salicylate. It is insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol, ether, and alkalies.
