donkey pump

A steam-pump for feeding steam-engine boilers; frequently used for pumping in water during the ce ation from working of the principal engine. It is used as a substitute for the feed-pump portion of the large engine; also used in breweries, distilleries, gas-works, tanneries, and chemical works.
