molluscum

(mol-us’kum) [L. “soft”]. The name of various skin diseases. m. con o’sum, m. epithelia’le, a disease marked by the formation of firm, rounded skin tubercles containing a semifluid caseous matter or solid ma es made up of fat, epidermis, and peculiar capsulated bodies (m.-corpuscles). The tubercles appear usually upon the face, are very chronic in their course, and are without general symptoms. The disease is believed to be due to a coccidium. m. fibro’sum, m. pen’dulum, m. sim’plex, diseases marked by the development of multiple fibromata of the skin, which often form pendulous growths. They arise from the corium or the subcutaneous ti ue. Mm. verruco’sum, a late stage of molluscum contagiosum in which the growths have become wart-like ma es.
