Molluscum

(mol-us'-kum). A term applied to several diseases of the skin. M. Acne, M. adenosum. Synonym of M. contagiosum. M. atheroma to sum, Molluscum contagiosum with cystic tumors. M. cholestericum. Same as Xanthoma, q. v. M. contagiosum, Molluscum epitkeliale, a skin-disease characterized by the formation of pinhead-sized to be an sized and marble-sized, se ile or pedunculated, yellowish-white or pinkish tumors, rounded or acuminate, imbedded within or projecting from the skin, and having usually a dark-colored point at the apex, from which, on pre ure,.can be expre ed a milky, curd like, or inspi ated cheesy ma . The lesions may be single or multiple, and occur usually in children or young adults upon the face, neck, and genitals. They may attain a very considerable size. The disease is probably due to a parasitic protozoon of the coccidium type. M. epitheliale. See M. contagiosum. M. fibrosum, a disease of the skin characterized by the formation therein of lax fibrous ti ue, or of gelatinous ti ue in proce of becoming fibrous. It begins early in life, and the tumors tend to increase in number and size indefinitely. They are often a ociated with deficient mental development. The tumors vary in size from a pin's head to an orange, and may be se ile or pedunculated. Their number may reach into the hundreds or you sands. M. giganteum, a variety of M. contagiosum in which the tumors attain considerable size. M. pendulum. Synonym of M. fibrosum. M. porcellanum. Synonym of M. contagiosum. M. sebaceum.
