Othman

(or OS'MAN) 1., son of Ortogrul, a Turcoman chief, was B. in Asia Minor, and becoming chief of his tribe in 1280, invaded and conquered Greece and Bithynia in 1299, and founded the Ottoman empire. D. 1326. -O. ІІ., B. 1696, s. his father, Sultan Achmet I., in 1618, and was murdered 4 years after. - 0. ІІІ., B. 1696, s. his brother, Malımoud I., on the Turkish throne in 1754. D. 1757. [s. 672]
