Hamamelis

(ham-am-e’lis) (Gr. dua like + μῆλον apple-tree]. A genus of hamame' ceo us trees and shrubs. The leaves of H. virgin'ica, or witch hazel, are styptic, sedative, and vulnerary, and are used in internal hemorrhages and threatened abortion, and locally in inflamed conditions. Dose, 1-60 min. (0.066-4 c.c.).
